National Unity Day observed across Jammu Division | KNO

To commemorate the 142nd birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabbhai Patel being celebrated as the National Unity Day various programmes were today held across Jammu Division. At Rajouri District Development Commissioner, Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, flagged off a grand “Run for Unity” rally taken out by the students, teachers, civil society members, media persons, district officers of civil and police administration from the DC Office Complex, The rally after going through the market culminated at District Police Lines where a spectacular function was organized to mark the day. Paying rich tributes to commendable services of Sardar Patel towards India, Dr. Shahid reiterated the government’s resolve to preserve and promote the cultural diversity of the nation besides safeguarding its unity and integrity. He impressed upon the participants to protect and preserve their religious, linguistic and cultural identity, respecting the identities of others. Dr. Shahid also recollected the initiatives undertaken by district administration to celebrate the unity among various cultures and religions in the district. SSP Yougal Manhas, while speaking on the occasion, said everyone in the country is proud of Patel’s contribution towards the Nation. School students also spoke on the occasion and threw light on the importance of celebrating “National Unity Day”. Later, the National Unity pledge was also administered with participants resolving to contribute their bit in making India a great nation. The National Unity Day was also observed across all the tehsils in the district with great fervor and huge participation of government departments, public and the students. The Motor Vehicle and Police departments distributed books on road Safety signs and refreshment among the participants. Among others ADDC, A.S. Chib, ACR Qayoom Mir, Addl. SP Mohd Yousuf, Tehsildar Mohd Raiyaz, ARTO Jugal Kishore, Dy.SP DAR Shazia Mir, Dy. SP Headquarters Jaswant Singh, DEPO Gulzar Hussain and DYS & S officer Swarn Singh were present on the occasion. At Ramban District Police organised “Run for Unity” and Pledge taking ceremony to foster and reinforce the dedication to preserve and strengthen unity, integrity and security of the nation. The run started from Dak Bunglow Ramban and culminated at Maitra park. Deputy Commissioner, Tariq Hussain Gania, SSP Mohan Lal, ADC Gurvinder Jit Singh, ASP Mushtaq Chowdhary and other district officers besides large number of people participated in the programme. At Samba the “Run for Unity” was organized by the District Administration saw massive participation with around 2500 people enthusiastically joining various activities. The administration had organized different events like Mass Pledge, Cycle Race, Marathon Race and Walkathon MLA, Dr Devinder Kumar Manyal flagged off participants under different categories. Speaking on the occasion, MLA highlighted the strong leadership of Sardar Patel which helped in maintaining security and unity of the country. He lauded the efforts of district administration and different organisations for the successful conduct of the event. Amardeep singh S/O Raghubir Chand and Amardeep Singh S/O Bhag Singh secured first positions in cycling (Boys) under 14 and above 14 category;Swadha Jamwal and Aditi Sambyal secured first positions in cycling (Girls) under 14 and above 14 category; Nitin choudhary and Gurnam Singh stood first in under 14 and above 14 (Boys) Marathon category; Preeti and Rashida Bibi clinched first position in girls under 14 and above 14 Marathon category. In marathon security forces category, Mukesh Kumar from 80 BSF bn was the winner. Deputy Commissioner, Sheetal Nanda, SSP Anil Magotra, ADC Tilak Raj Sharma, district officers, members of ex serviceman league and citizens actively participated in these events. Elaborate arrangements were made by district administration for the events with support from Industries, Bar association, Business community, Hoteliers, NHAI, NRSS and other organizations. At Poonch a run for unity was organized by Directorate of Field Publicity, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, in collaboration with district administration, district police and youth services and sports and Information department. The event witnessed participation of various schools including GBHSS Poonch, GGHSS Sheesh Mahal Pooch, GHS Purani Pooch, Modern Academy Poocnh, Harikrishan Academy Poonch and Raza ul Uloom School in run for Unity Programme. MLC Pardeep Sharma along with Deputy Commissioner, Tariq Ahmed Zarger and SSP flagged off the “RUN FOR UNITY RALLY” which culminated at the Sports stadium. In addition, a cultural programme was also organized on the theme. At Udhmapur Member Legislative Assemble, Pawan Kumar Gupta flagged off the Marathon from the District Police line which culminated at Mini Stadium Udhampur. DIG, Varinder Kumar, District Development Commissioner, Ravinder Kumar, Senior Superintendent of Police, Rayees Bhat, large number students, prominent citizens participated in the rally for Peace and Communal Harmony. A function was also held at district headquarter in which pledge was administered by District Development Commissioner, Ravinder Kumar to officers and officials of various departments. Assistant commissioner Revenue, Subash Dogra, Chief Planning Officer, Ashok Khajuria, GM DIC, Suram Chand Sharma, Programme Officer, DRDA, Dr. Jagdish Mehra, PO IWMP, Sushil Kesar and officers of various departments participated in the programme. Earlier, a rally “Run for Unity” was organized from District Police Line Udhampur. At Reasi district police organized “Run for Unity” to mark the celebration of “Rashtriya Ekta Diwas” under Civic Action Programme here today. Senior Superintendent of Police, Tahir Bhat flagged off the Run in which people participated in large numbers. The race started from Ghair Marhi in which the participants ran all the way from Marhi to Sports Stadium Reasi after passing through Gran More, Geeta Nagar, Trintha and Thappa Chowk. In seniors category, Rohit Verma clinched first position with cash prize of Rs. 5000 whileas Narinder Singh and Rinku Singh bagged second and third position with a cash award of Rs. 3000 and Rs. 2000 respectively. In junior category, Mohd Altaf got first position with a reward of Rs. 3000 whileas Rahul Singh and Sajad Hussain won the race by Rs. 2000 and Rs. 1000 respectively among other competitors. Among girls Darshna Devi stood first, Surya Bibi second and Anju Bhagat third wining cash award of Rs. 3000, Rs.2000 and Rs. 1000 respectively. The consolation prizes were given to Daleep Singh, Mohd Arshad and Surjeet Singh. Among others present on the occasion were ASP’ Virinder Singh, DySP Hqr. Nikhil Gogna, DySP DAR Satish Bhardwaj, SHO Jasbir Singh, Police officers and officials, Sports persons and teachers. Similar programme was held at Mahore in which civil administration and police jointly organized the activities. A pledge on “Rashtriya Ekta Diwas” was also taken by all the participants in which they affirmed themselves to preserve the unity, integrity and security of the nation and strive hard to spread this message among their fellow countrymen. At Kathua district administration organized an interschool symposium on the theme of National Integration at Government Girls Higher Secondary School Kathua. Deputy Commissioner, Rishpal Singh was the chief guest on the occasion. The National Unity pledge was also administered to the students, staff and officers present which was followed by flagging off of the ‘Unity Rally’ by Deputy Commissioner in which hundreds of school students with the message on placards crossed through main markets of the Kathua town. Deputy Commissioner, while addressing the students, highlighted the contributions, of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel who played key role in integrating Indian states to make it a union of ethnic cultural diversity. “It is utmost duty of every citizen to work for national integration in their respective capacities”, he said. ASP Kathua, SE PDD, ACD, CEO, district officers, school staff and large number of students participated in the programme. At Doda district administration in collaboration with district police organised run for unity from Sports Stadium to Old Bridge Pull Doda under Civic Action Programme. The 5 Km Race was flagged off by the Deputy Commissioner, Bhawani Rakwal and SSP Mohammad Shabir. Janesh Kumar from Bhaderwah secured Ist position and was awarded with cash prize of Rs.5000/- along with certificate of participation. Similarly Naresh Kumar and Rajesh Kumar bagged 2nd and 3rd position respectively and were awarded with cash prize of Rs 3000 and Rs 2000. Speaking on the occasion Deputy Commissioner highlighted the importance of National Unity Day and exhorted upon the participants especially the youth to contribute positively in eradication of various social evils and maintaining communal harmony. In his address, SSP said that the very purpose of organizing the event is to maintain communal harmony, integration and sense of belongingness among the different sects of the society. ADC, Mohd Hanief Malik, Additional SP Hqrs Doda Vinay Kumar, Additional SP Ops, Ravinderpal Singh, Tehsildar Doda, Nasir Ali Natnoo, DySP Hqr,s Iftkhar Ahmed, Dysp, DAR Nazir Ganai, District Sports Officer Ashok Kumar besides other district officers of civil administration as well as Police department and prominent citizens were also present on the occasion. Similar programme on the occasion of National Unity Day was also held at district Kishtwar At Jammu the National unity day was celebrated by IRP-14th Bn at Channi Himmat Jammu to commemorate the birthday of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. While addressing the participants, Manohar Singh, SSP Commandant IR-14th Bn, gave brief description on the life of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and also highlighted his achievements and contribution towards independence of India and keeping the nation united by consolidating semi-autonomous princely states to form a united India. At the conclusion of the occasion, Commandant along with all the participants took an oath to foster and reinforce their dedication to preserve and strengthen the unity, integrity and security of the nation and work hard to make possible the vision and actions of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Similar function was also organized by SDRF Bn.Hqrs. Jammu. A march past followed by Pledge ceremony of SDRF personnel was organized on the occasion which was attended by all Officers and Jawans of the Bn. SSP, Commandant SDRF 2nd Bn. Jammu, Rashmi Wazir took the salute of SDRF contingents and briefed on the life history of Sardar Vallabbhai Patel. In the oath ceremony, all Officers and Jawans took an oath to work dedicatedly for the unity of the Nation. DySP Sudershan Mehta, DySP Arvind Kotwal, DySP Pran Nath Pandita, DySP Hafizullah were also present on the occasion.
